In brief...A doctor was formally cleared

A doctor was formally cleared by the General Medical Council last week for allowing parents to opt for a single measles vaccine for their children instead of the combined measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine. Dr Peter Mansfield, who owns a private practice in Louth, Lincolnshire, faced being struck off the medical register when he defied Government advice that only the combined MMR vaccine should be given. The GMC sent Dr Mansfield a letter advising him to continue giving patients advice about the full range of options for inoculations in the light of the latest evidence. A Department of Health spokesman said, 'This will not lead to changes in the policy on MMR. We do not condone the use of separate vaccines.'
