Far and wide

Prepare to set sail for Australia and North and South America to discover a new world with old traditions. Hetty Kothari embarks on another classroom journey At Sarum Hall School we decided to embark on an 'our world' project, which drew on the children's and their parents' experiences of countries around the globe. We 'visited' every continent and at least one country within each. This week we outline our 'travels' to Oceania (formerly referred to as Australasia) and North and South America.

Oceania

All at sea

* As a means of incorporating the sea and oceans into our project we focused on the Great Barrier Reef, when we 'travelled' to Australia.

* To our amazement, one of the children's fathers had sailed around the world. He brought in a model of the boat that he had sailed in and a toy animal from each of the continents and talked to the children about his travels.
