ENABLE, the Scottish charity for people with learning disabilities, celebrated its 50th anniversary last week at an event at which First Minister Jack McConnell heard young people from Fife, Perth and Inverness who have learning disabilities talk about their hopes for the future. Mr McConnell said, 'We need to create the best possible environment for them so they can realise their ambitions and take part in the decisions that affect their own lives.' During the next year, ENABLE plans to raise funds for a new voluntary service for children and adults who have learning disabilities that will match them with volunteers who share similar interests.
