Organising a topic on My home may appear deceptively simple but, as this issue of Nursery Topics will show, it is a project that needs a lot of planning and is a subject that has to be dealt with sensitively. Success depends on practitioners recognising the importance of the home corner (see Home corner, page 21) and reflecting on good practice (see Home visits, page 22). Above all, success depends on detailed information about what individual children understand by 'home' and 'family' (see Introduction, page 4). After all, how many of us live in a picture-book double-fronted house? And what is an 'average' family?
