Early years childcare and education

A comprehensive and high-quality system of early years childcare and education is needed to improve children's life chances and enable women to participate equally in the workforce, says a new book from the Institute of Public Policy Research. Social Justice: Building a Fairer Britain, calls `for a series of reforms by 2020, including increasing paid parental leave to 12 months, six months parental leave when a child is aged between one and five, 20 hours free education per week for all pre-schoolers, and increasing the qualifications level of the early years workforce to levels similar to those in Sweden and Demark.
