Unsurprisingly, no child shows enthusiasm for doing this. They are being put off drama and performing on stage, because they think it will be like these assemblies. (I have difficulty in attracting enough local children to my drama workshops in the holidays, but once they come they change their minds about it.) Yet again, teachers are being expected to lead children in a specialist subject that they may have had little or no training for. Surely it is time schools were given money to pay at least the expenses and childcare costs of parents and friends who have the necessary skills and qualifications, so they could come in to work effectively with children and teachers when needed?
