The Centre for Strategy and Communication's programme, which launches on 1 November, is aimed at experienced early years staff who are now obliged to take on new managerial and planning roles.
The course includes modules on project management, moving into management, team building, practical assertiveness, presentation skills and effective meeting skills. Each will be available as an in-house course tailored specially for the sector and will use specific examples and case studies.
All trainers on the programme will have personal experience and knowledge of the early years and childcare sector.
Liz Sewell, the centre's chief executive and the early years and childcare programme director, said it was not designed for nursery managers seeking supervisory skills but had a broader, more strategic role in equipping those at national and local level who are implementing the childcare strategy and the roll-out of children's centres.
She said, 'My research has shown that there are an awful lot of people in the sector who are moving into these new posts and they may feel confident in their knowledge of early years, but they are being asked to step up to project management roles.'
Potential participants might have been involved in some project management, Ms Sewell said, but 'know they are having to do it at a higher level on bigger budgets and that requires them to have new skills'.
'Now the ten-year strategy is in place we want to make sure that it works at local level. Our new training programme is there to help individuals and teams reach their potential and transform local services.'
