(Photograph) - Catherine Barnes (left), a second-year CACHE Diploma in Nursery Nursing student at Derby Tertiary College, has won the second Heinemann Childcare Student of the Year Award. Mrs Barnes is a mature student who also runs a local playgroup and does many fundraising activities in her local community. She was presented with her 200 prize by Baroness Ashton, early years minister, at the Under-12s Exhibition at the Business Design Centre in London, and the competition judges included Nursery World editor Liz Roberts. The runners-up were Katherine MacDonald, South Downs College, Waterlooville, Hants; Khabo Leeming, Calderdale College, Halifax, Yorkshire; and Michelle Gorman, James Watt College, Greenock.
