Strong leadership is essential for fostering a safer organisational culture in the early years and will always prioritise children's safety and wellbeing. The concept of culture encourages leaders to consider how they define and consistently facilitate opportunities where children's needs supersede those of adults. Safe culture is a constant characteristic threading its way through a revised EYFS driven by the need for urgent reform. The drivers are clear and address a number of safeguarding weaknesses identified in recent years. In response to the Government's consultation in 2024, respondents unanimously agreed that ‘changes to the EYFS safeguarding requirements would improve children's safety and align with current best practice in early years settings’.
