Q: Sadly, one of our amazing practitioners died recently. It's a tough time for all the team and I'm wondering what I can do to support them?

‘I suggest you have a meeting with staff to check in with them. People deal with things differently. Listen to them and let them tell you what they need. Offer them counselling and time off. Just make it clear that as a manager, you are there for them and will help them. Be a shoulder to cry on.

‘The memories of their colleague will be there every time a member of staff walks in a nursery room. You might consider swapping staff into different rooms for a while.
