Spotlight on ... Emily Fisher

Management
Position: Nursery assistant at BarBar Nursery, Quedgeley, Gloucester

How does it feel to be shortlisted for the National Lifetime Learner Achievement Awards?

My tutor put me forward for it. It was a great achievement and a real confidence boost. When I started my Level 2 childcare apprenticeship six months ago, I wouldn't even talk to my own tutor. The award and doing this job have built up my confidence.

What challenges did you face while doing the course and working at BarBar nursery?

You had to do a maximum of 16 hours but I did 34 hours a week. I've got three young siblings under the age of four at home and my mum is a single mum, so I help her bring them up.

What attracted you to childcare?

Having three younger siblings, nursery work seemed the best way to see how kids develop.

What have you most enjoyed about working at the nursery?

Seeing how much kids develop, from the moment they come in to when they go to school. They are so different, with their own characters.
