Author of Ted the Bread and the Harvest Festival

ted-the-bread-bearWhere did the idea for Ted the Bread come from?

I've had the idea for years now.

I was nicknamed 'Ted the Bread' during my time in the RAF, because I was in charge of the only bakery the Force had in North Africa and my first name is also Ted. But I wrote the story to get youngsters involved in bread making, which is why there's a recipe in the back of the book. I've been to several schools in the area and taken bread dough with me, ready made. By the time I've finished telling the children my stories about Ted the dough is proved and ready for the children to make their own little loaves.

Why did you choose to start writing children's stories now, at the age of 85?

Writing about Ted is a dream I've had for such a long time now, but for many years other things got in the way of me writing the book, as they always do. It was around five years ago that I started to write the first story about Ted and my daughter suggested I follow it up, so I carried on.

What's next for Ted?

I'm now looking at writing the fourth book, Ted the Bread meets Father Christmas.
