The importance of outdoor learning for young children's development continues to grow, so don't miss our masterclass at Nursery World North, where you can access advice from leading experts.

Saturday 12 May, 9.15-12.15

Outdoor play and learning: widening the potential

However urban their environment or small their outdoor space, all early years settings can broaden their perspective on outdoor learning and improve their support of young children. Growing focus on our place in the natural world, as well as our role in achieving sustainable development, therapeutic use of movement and nature, and increasing awareness of the power of loose parts are all areas in which outdoor practice is pushing the boundaries.

Outdoor play specialist Jan White will introduce her 12-point framework for unlocking learning outdoors, and will unpack the case study of Quackers in York, a multi-award-winning and highly child-led and mud-orientated pre-school playgroup, with its owner Menna Godfrey. Delegates will also hear about strategies for outdoor learning including materials and resources, planning, and health and safety with Jan, Suzanne Scott, owner-manager and Ann Thompson, teacher and early years consultant, Sandfield Natural Play Centre, Knowsley.
