Resources

A cup of dry pitted prunes, a cup of dried pitted apricots, 4 bananas, a cup of raisins, a cup of freshly squeezed orange juice, 2 tablespoons of honey, the juice and grated peel of a lemon

Step by step

* Talk about the appearance of dried fruit and compare it to fresh fruit it once was. Bring in examples of fruit or look for pictures in books.

* Ask the children to tell you what has happened to change the texture, look and colour of the dried fruit.

* Taste the dried fruit and notice it is no longer juicy or soft.

* Let the children soak the dried prunes, apricots and raisins in warm water until they are soft.

* Cut the fresh bananas into slices and spread them evenly over the bottom of an oven-proof dish.

* Place the soaked, dried fruit over the bananas.

* Mix the juices, honey and the peel. Pour over the fruit.

* Cook for 30 minutes in the oven at 180xC.

* Serve when it has cooled down and add yogurt if desired.
