'Parents need to talk to babies'

One fifth of expectant parents believe it is beneficial to communicate with their baby only from the age of three months, according to new research published by the National Literacy Trust to coincide with Talk to Your Baby's first campaign to directly target parents.

The campaign aims to educate parents about their role in helping their child to develop communication skills in the first three years of life. A new parents' website offers tips and factsheets about key developmental milestones at www.talktoyourbaby.org.uk. Updated guidance is also available for early years practitioners at www.literacytrust.org.uk/talk_to_your_baby.
