The number of primary school classes in the five-to seven-year-old range with more than 30 pupils has risen, according to new figures from the DfES. However, since last year the number of support staff has gone up by 22,300.

This, combined with an increase in the number of teachers, means that the pupil to adult ratio has fallen from 13.4:1 to 12.8:1 in primary school classes.
