But I am now concerned for the future of nannying.
Swindon Nannies, the agency I am registered with, is closing due to a reduced demand for nannies. Proprietors Sharon Bayfield and Jan Archer have helped and supported me during the first nine years of my career. When a job wasn't going well and I was in tears and needed advice, they were there for me. When a job was really enjoyable I'd call and thank them for putting me forward for it. But what about all the newly qualified nannies in the area now - who will they turn to for support?
Is this due to more places in nurseries? Or is it time for nannies to be registered so parents who employ them can have tax credits? Nannies are a flexible solution to childcare needs, and I believe they need to be given the same registered benefits as childminders and nurseries.
