Number of playwork training centres doubles to make national network

Last month saw the launch of five new centres for playwork training in England, bringing the total to nine - one in each region. This is the latest step in a national programme implemented by SPRITO, the Government-funded training organisation for playwork, to enable playworkers to develop good practice and to get the qualifications they need. Paul Bonel, director of the SPRITO Playwork Unit, said, 'For the first time we have a centre in every Government office region in England. Together we are going to make a huge impact on the quality and quantity of playwork education, training and qualifications. Highly skilled playworkers can provide top-notch play provision. This is such a crucial time for playwork to have a strategic role in provision for children and young people.'
