Nigel de Gruchy, the former general secretary of teachers' union the NASUWT, was elected the new president of the Trades Union Congress last week. He succeeds Sir Tony Young and will serve until the end of the next year's congress in Brighton. Mr de Gruchy said, 'During my presidential year, I'd like to see the TUC continuing to campaign to give employees more say and control over their working lives. For too many workers there is a need to roll back the tyranny of work, to stop the job dominating their lives and families.'
