The Scottish government has placed haggis on a list of restricted foods for nursery schools. New guidelines on nutrition (see News, page 6) recommend that under-fives eat the famous delicacy no more than once a week, along with other processed meats such as chicken nuggets and hot dogs. But the Herald said the classification has provoked anger among haggis producers who believe the dish is far more nutritious than many other foodstuffs. Parents-to-be are spending an average of 1,560 on their baby even before the birth, said BBCNews. A third of the money is spent on maternity wear, health supplements, books and beauty treatments.

The Sun claimed new mothers are being 'driven back to work early' because they can't survive on maternity pay. A survey by online bank ING Direct found that just four out of ten women use up their full leave entitlement.
