Reflecting on the challenges faced by many in the cost of living crisis, the charity is determined to provide free, evidence-based advice and support for everyone who wants to eat a healthier diet.
Resources for teachers, and early years educators, detailing healthy eating and lifestyle are available to download from the foundation's website.
Financial struggles have caused families to change their lifestyle and shopping habits which has resulted in certain food groups being neglected, which the BNF fears may be causing adverse longterm health consequences.
Claire Theobald, education services manager at the BNF said the early years provides a ‘great window of opportunity for young children to learn about food and healthy eating.'
She recommends creative activities such as ‘find the fruit and vegetables’, ‘perfect pulses’ and ‘drink pairs’ to bring the subject to life and promote good eating habits from a young age. Advice about how to include these activities is included in the free resources early years settings can sign up to receive.
