The money will be made available over the next three years to Early Years Development and Childcare Partnerships via local education authorities to help them meet tough targets on improving pre-school provision for special educational needs.
Education and employment secretary David Blunkett said last week that Pounds 11m would be provided to train early years and childcare SEN specialists, including up to 850 area co-ordinators who will work with early education settings in the non-maintained sector and link SEN children to other support services as needed. This money includes 500,000 to create up to four pilot area Special Education Needs Co-ordinator networks over the next year.
