But on looking at the issue of 17 October on Diwali, I ask the question, 'When was the last time a truly Christian feature was done?'. Easter bunnies and chicks or jingle bells are not what the Christian faith is about. As we try to help our children to understand and respect people from different backgrounds, a proper presentation and celebration of the Christian festivals is equally important.
On a not totally dissimilar tack, I heard the leader of a recent training day (a woman of Asian descent) say that it was just as important to celebrate British culture as Chinese New Year and so on. Perhaps in our rush to be seen as 'politically correct' we have thrown the baby out with the bathwater.

Liz Roberts, editor of Nursery World, replies: Nursery World does try to avoid the problem you mention, although I do appreciate your points. In our 'Celebrations' series we included Easter, taking a rigorous look at the background and at how the Christian faith should be presented through the festival. We continue to review how we cover religious festivals of all faiths.
