A week of school sports days planned

A national summer of school sports days is being planned following a year in which most were cancelled due to the pandemic, the Youth Sport Trust has announced.

Schools, organisations and families are all being invited to take part in the National School Sport Week and pledge to hold a ‘Together Again’ sports day between 19 and 25 June.

The event aims to help children to reconnect and recover from having their lives disrupted by the global pandemic through getting active.

Youth Sport Trust chief executive Ali Oliver believes that sport has a ‘crucial role’ to play in promoting children’s wellbeing.

‘With the planned lifting of restrictions, we hope this June will see a summer of refocussed Together Again school sports days, celebrating togetherness and helping young people to recover from a year like no other,’ she said.
