There is something magical about water that fascinates both children and adults. While many early years settings have water trays, children often benefit from using water in different contexts. Focusing on washing activities is one way to help children learn and play using water.

An important starting point is safety. Water can cause surfaces to become slippery, while water in containers can be a drowning hazard. If soap or cleaning products are being used, you must check they are suitable for individual children's skin. You will also need a collection of resources such as sponges, cloths, brushes and plenty of towels!
