
I started nursery when I was three years old. I remember meeting the nicest lady I had ever known – the nursery teacher, Mrs H. She had black curly hair and her big eyes beamed with kindness. I recall vividly how she looked at me with my tear-streaming eyes on my first day and said, ‘You can do what you want to do today, and for the rest of your life, it's up to you.’ I felt in charge and so encouraged. From then onwards I came to realise that it was up to me to learn, to work and to choose how to spread my wings.
