
All early years providers are required to have arrangements in place to identify and support children with SEND and to promote equality of opportunity for children in their care, as set out in the EYFS. Meanwhile, with annual data published in June this year showing an increase from 17.3 per cent to 18.4 per cent in SEND across UK schools, the need for pre-school SEND training is becoming acute.
Anna Speke, education officer at nasen (National Association for Special Educational Needs), believes that to meet an increased demand for SEND support, empowering the workforce to deliver provision that is genuinely inclusive – and which accommodates complex needs – is vital.
