For children who eat all their meals in early years settings, these meals can make up 90 per cent of their daily caloric intake(1), underscoring the need for balanced, high-quality food. FixOurFood views early years settings, alongside schools, as crucial to transforming food systems. University of York Professor Maria Bryant, who initiated the project, said, ‘Early years childcare offers a crucial opportunity to foster healthy eating habits. This report calls for cross-party action to review food standards and increase resources to ensure proper nutrition during this vital stage of development.’
