Having worked in the field of educational technology for a long time, I have had the privilege of working alongside folks who love tech. I’ve also worked alongside many who are fearful, reluctant and even scared of technology.

In part one of this series, I talked about David White’s theory that states we are all somewhere along a continuum of digital ‘visitors’ and ‘residents’. Some of the children we work with are growing up surrounded by technology, and some will have more limited access.

The visitor/resident theory suggests we are all able to move along the continuum depending on what we are using the technology for. For example, someone might be very proficient in doing their online weekly shop but they don’t use online banking because they aren’t sure how to do it. Or someone might be an online gamer, but the idea of social media seems too much.
