While adults often mind rain and use it as a reason for not going out, children are far more resilient. For children, provided they are suitably dressed, rain represents plenty of fun. And where there is fun, there is the potential for meaningful learning! Our job is to be ready for rain – even in these summer months – so that children can make the most of it.
The first port of call when planning for rain is to think about clothing and footwear. A rainy day in winter with a cold wind requires a different approach to a shower in the summer. Wellingtons with the option of warm insoles for the winter and all-in-ones with the option of a removable fleece lining are worth considering for an all-seasons approach. For babies, look out for waterproof booties. Reassuring parents may also be a consideration.
