For the second year running Kids 1st Day Nurseries comes top in Nursery Chains' annual quality survey, based on an analysis of the Ofsted reports of the 20 biggest nursery groups.

The chain of nine nurseries in the North East of England has the highest proportion of outstanding grades, with six settings rated outstanding and three good. Caring Daycare which has 12 nurseries in Surrey is in second place, with its settings split equally between outstanding and good.

In the autumn 2012 issue of Nursery Chains we also see how the largest nursery groups have fared over the past year through expansion and acquisition, with our Top 25 league table.

We look in on Seymour House, this year's Nursery World awardwinning chain to find the secrets of its success, consider the role of graduate leadership, seek expert predictions on the year ahead, and find out from some of the long-established groups how running a nursery has changed.
