North-west nursery group Just Childcare has acquired its 15th setting in Merseyside.

The group, which is owned by Jacqueline and David Johnson, has bought Park Wood Day Nursery in Bidston, the Wirral.

The 61-place nursery was formerly owned by husband and wife team, Mr and Mrs Witherspoon.

Since last autumn, Just Childcare has more than doubled its number of nurseries, growing from a chain of six to 15.

The acquisition brings the total number of nurseries owned by Just Childcare to 15, offering 816 places, which would make it the 25th largest nursery chain in the UK, according to data from Nursery World’s Nursery Chains 2014.

The group's other nurseries, which are all rated good and outstanding, are based in Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside and Cheshire.

Mr and Mrs Witherspoon said, ‘After 15 years of running our nursery business the time was right for us to bow out and explore pastures new.

‘We wish the new owners Just Childcare all the very best for the future.’

Nick Brown, associate director at Christie and Co, which brokered the same, said, ‘This was a highly confidential sale where we approached a handful of active buyers which resulted a deal being agreed within days of marketing commencing, a price was agreed with the buyer and all parties have worked together to make this deal happen in a short time frame.’
