The National Union of Teachers has moved to block Government plans to introduce new baseline assessments for children at the start of Reception.

Children will be assessed using a baseline check when they start Reception, and the EYFS Profile will no longer be compulsory, the Department for Education has confirmed.

Early years experts have criticised the Government’s plans to introduce formal “baseline” testing for children at the start of Reception, after press reports at the weekend revealed that the tests will start in 2016.
