Childcarers and parents are being summoned to a 'council of war' to step up their campaign to prevent the closure of a local council nursery and one o'clock club. The local authority in the London Borough of Hackney decided on 24 June to shut the St John's Nursery, despite acknowledging that it has a full complement of 45 children and is located in a prime site in the centre of Hackney.

Media regulator Ofcom is currently consulting on restricting junk food advertising. Women currently get 26 get 26 weeks of ordinary maternity leave and a further 26 weeks if she has been at the company for six months.
