One well-qualified nanny who's tired of waiting for the stamp of approval from the Childcare Approval Scheme is Laura Humphries of Surrey. She applied to the scheme in January when her employer made a pay rise conditional on being able to receive childcare vouchers for having an approved nanny. After a series of delays and lost cheques by the local office, she was asked to attend an appointment involving a long trip and a morning off work, only to see her forms photocopied without an interview. 'I could have been anyone! A scary thought for those parents thinking the approval scheme will get them the "better" nannies,' says Laura. She's still waiting to hear from the approval team despite being told it would be cleared by early April.

I was very impressed with your feature on childcare vouchers and handy parent's guide (Nursery World, 6 July). The information was informative and concise. As a childcare voucher provider, we are continuously striving to help parents understand the savings that can be achieved through this employee benefit. I was particularly impressed with your Q&A section which helps parents understand the impact of childcare vouchers on other benefits. We find that our clients are particularly impressed with our tax credit estimator, offering their employees a tool to make an informed choice. As your article highlights, it was developed to help parents navigate the potentially confusing relationship between childcare vouchers and tax credits. We provide this free of charge to all Accor Services clients.
