Top tips and advice on early language development

Wednesday, November 29, 2017

Back by popular demand is Professor Padraic Monaghan who will be explaining how to support children's early language acquisition.

Prof Monaghan's C&L seminar at our NW North Show in May received fantastic feedback as it combined the latest research findings on language acquisition with practical advice. In his London seminar, he'll once again be mixing the 'academic' with the 'hands-on'.

As well as being professor of Cognition at Lancaster University, Prof Monaghan is also co-director of the ESRC International Centre for Language and Communicative Development (LuCiD).

This five-year research project is working to transform our understanding of language development and how to support it (www.lucid.ac.uk/). The LuCiD team includes over 40 researchers from Lancaster University, the University of Liverpool and the University of Manchester.

In his talk, Prof Monaghan will be looking at the quality as well as the quantity of the language spoken in adult-child interactions during the earliest stages of a child’s life, and what features are critical to effective language acquisition.
