Observation, Assessment and Planning in the Early Years- Bringing it all together

Friday, May 17, 2013

By Kathy Brodie (Open University Press, 21.99, ISBN 978033524670)

True to its sub-title, this book demonstrates how the four areas of observation, assessment and planning work together as a cycle. The author's aim is to assist the reader's understanding of how each should be approached and inform the other, so that all aspects of children's learning can be supported effectively.

Part one gets down to basics, examining the theorists, reasons for observation and different approaches, taking the reader on to using information gained, thinking deeply around what planning means, and finally pulling everything together for the individual child. There is also detailed information on observing children with SEN.
