Expert advice on planning, observation and assessment

Wednesday, December 7, 2016

Early years consultant Stella Louis is among the line-up of experts delivering the seminar and masterclass programme at our NW Show in London on 3 and 4 February

The theme of quality in early years practice will run through both Stella’s Saturday seminars and draw on interesting case studies.

The lack of Government guidance and local authority support, coupled with confusion over ‘school readiness’ and ‘baseline assessment’, means early years settings are looking increasingly to reflective practice and other pedagogies to try to define and raise the quality of their practice and provision.

‘Planning, observation and assessment: lessons from a case’ will provide an overview of essential principles and an insight into how reflective dialogue helped one staff team deepen their understanding of children’s play, learning and development.

In ‘Raising quality in the EYFS: learning from Froebel’, Stella will co-present with Jane Dyke, owner of Yellow Door, and explain how the nursery group improved their practice by piloting a Froebel training programme.

The theme of Saturday’s masterclass is Closing the gap: birth to three, which has a focus on language and development, and other seminar themes of the day are learning potential of woodwork and children’s photography, supporting multilingual children and the Characteristics of Effective Learning.
