Call for early years settings to enter Chatterbox Challenge 2014

The challenge, which runs from 10-16 February 2014, is an annual event which encourages children under the age of five to sing and rhyme to raise money to support the 1.2 million children in the UK with speech, language and communication difficulties.

For this year’s Chatterbox Challenge, sponsored by Openreach and TTS and supported by children’s TV’s character Humf, children are invited to perform songs and rhymes based on sounds, noises and silence in front of families and carers.

Early years settings that register to take part will receive a free fundraising pack with activities linked to the EYFS.

Virginia Beardshaw, chief executive of I CAN, said, ‘The Chatterbox Challenge is a firm favourite in the early years calendar, when children under five learn nursery rhymes and take part in activities aimed at making them confident communicators. We are grateful to Openreach, TTS and Humf for their support in making this year’s event bigger than ever before.

‘ We hope hundreds of groups will register online and save Chatterbox Challenge Week in their diaries so they can take part in this fun event.’
