Daycare Trust and Family and Parenting Institute merge in the New Year

The Daycare Trust has officially announced it is to merge with the Family and Parenting Institute in January.
The boards of both charities yesterday agreed the merger which will see the creation of a new organisation for family and childcare issues in the UK on 1 January 2013.
Plans to merge the two charities were first announced in July.
The new organisation, which will be renamed and branded in the New Year, will be led by Anand Shukla, the current chief executive of the Daycare Trust.
Katherine Rake, the chief executive of the Family and Parenting Institute, is to leave the charity and take up her new post as first director of Healthwatch England, an independent consumer champion for health and social care.
Mr Shukla said, ‘I am very excited by the opportunity of leading the combined work of two organisations which have such a significant track record in campaigning for childcare and families, and which have both succeeded in securing concrete improvements in policy and service delivery. My priority as chief executive of the new organisation will be able to work with government and employers to ensure that the needs of families, with a particular focus on childcare, are at the heart of their thinking and practice.’
He added, ‘I would also like to pay tribute to Katherine’s work at FPI, and wish her every success in the future.’
