Early years settings asked young children what Christmas means to them. Here we share a selection of their replies

Early years settings asked young children what Christmas means to them.

Here we share a selection of their replies

Why we celebrate Christmas

Little baby Jesus gets born in Bethlehem, it's a long long way away and it's his birthday - he is one years old.

Roisin, aged 5

It's all about calendars.

Michael, aged 5

It's all about baby Jesus' birthday.

Ponmile, aged 4

We celebrate Christmas because it is nice to give toys.

Jacob, aged 4

You get the 'advert' calendar down.

Jamie, aged 4

On Christmas Day Santa comes to me and we make snowmen.

Luciana, aged 3

It's because it's Jesus' birthday and we get presents because he loves us.

Alex, aged 4

The Nativity

Baby Jesus stayed in a stable. I wouldn't like to stay in a stable. I'd like to stay in my own house.

Zoe, aged 4

I'd like to stay in a stable with a cow.

Caitlin, aged 5

We talk about baby Jesus in the Christmas play and sing special songs

Euglent, aged 5

Baby Jesus was born in a stable with some straws. I was born in a hospital, not a stable.

Jamie, aged 4

The baby got presents from kings.

Bobby, aged 4

The little Lord Cheese is asleep in the hay.

Evie, aged 3

Father Christmas is Jesus' Dad.

Neil, aged 4

Jesus is the new baby next door and Christmas is nothing to do with him.

James, aged 4

Christmas trees

We decorated a Christmas tree with angels.

Katie, aged 3

I put chocolates on my Christmas tree.

Luciana, aged 3

It's silly having a tree inside the house. They are meant to be in the garden.

Jacob, aged 4

What we like about Christmas

Snowmen

Ella, aged 3 and Ben, aged 2

Presents

Megan, aged 3 and Daniel aged 4

The Christmas tree

Max, aged 3

Christmas songs and lights

Luke, aged 4

Food

Marcus, aged 3

Decorations and pudding

George, aged 4

Father Christmas

When I'm asleep Father Christmas brings me toys and fills my stocking.

Zoe, aged 4

He goes down the chimney but I don't have a chimney, so he comes through the door instead.

Roxana, aged 5

Father Christmas plays football.

Michael, aged 4

When it's snowing Santa comes and gives us presents.

Jasmine, aged 4

'How does Father Christmas walk on the ceilings?'

'He flies.'

'He can't fly inside a house because he's not allowed.'

'But he does fly a sleigh outside.'

Roxana, aged 5 and Zoe, aged 4

I saw Santa in town. He climbed on a sleigh - but he was the pretend Santa.

He must have been a man or a lady.

Marlie, aged 3

He's friends with Rudolph.

Dean, aged 3

Rudolph is really a cow dressed up for Christmas Emily, aged 3

Father Christmas looks like a big, black rain cloud

Katie, aged 3

He's not good because he should always, always take his wellies off when he goes in people's houses and wear his slippers.

Finlay, aged nearly 3

He's at the top of my house, on the outside!

Carla, aged 3

He drives a tractor, trailer and a lorry.

Max, aged 3

He got stuck in the chimney and the boys and girls had to pull him out or else they would not have got any toys.

Euglent, aged 5

He gets really hungry before he goes to bed and eats a bowl of salad with broccoli and pasta that is full of vitamins and he gives the leftovers to Rudolph because his children only eat chips.

Jack, aged 4

Father Christmas is very lazy. If Christmas didn't come he would never get up at all. He only gets up because all the mummies and daddies in the world tell him it is Christmas and so he has to get up to give all the children presents. Mummies and daddies never forget to tell Father Christmas to get up because they are his elves

Eilidh, aged 3

Father Christmas has got green trousers like the teachers and smells like a reindeer.

Stewart, aged 3

I love him.

Felicity, aged 2

Presents

I want a Hot Wheels track that when you put Hot Wheels on it there's a thing that makes them flip up in the air. I didn't see it on TV, I just thought of it. And Santa loves you all the time, even when you're bad

Alex, aged 4

I get presents for my birthday and sometimes for Eid but not for Christmas .

Michael, aged 4

He brings us presents when we've been good. I'm getting a 'poota'

(computer).

Marlie, aged 3

I want a princess doll.

Amira, aged 3

I want a bike and a computer.

Luciana, aged 3

I'd like a book case because at the moment I only have a box for my books.

Katie, aged 3

I get what I want.

Jacob, aged 4

Celebrations

When I pulled my cracker there was a hat and the cracker popped.

Jasmine, aged 4

People come to my house for dinner at Christmas and we eat a big cake.

Kevin, aged 4

We eat lots and lots of food and my Grandma eats lots as well.

Bobby, aged 4

I see Baby Jack, Nanny and Scarlett.

Lewis, aged 3

You eat chocolate!

Matthew, aged 3

You stay indoors.

Alexis-Jade, aged 2

How we feel on that day I feel happy.

Dylan, aged 4 and Louis, aged 3

Hot.

Karan, aged 4

I see the lights and feel excited.

Tanya, aged 3
