Half of family income goes on food

One in six parents in the UK say they have gone without a meal so that they can put food on the table for their family, according to new research.

An Ipsos MORI poll of more than 1,500 adults, commissioned by Oxfam,found that 80 per cent of people living in poverty in the UK have beenaffected by the rise of the cost of living.

The poll found that families are spending on average 50 per cent oftheir disposable income (not taking into account household costs) -approximately 92 a week - on food.
