- Memorable snow

Children from Little Acorns Day Nursery in Gomersal, West Yorkshire,enjoyed the arrival of snow last week. They put down grit to clear thenursery paths to keep themselves and others safe and learned aboutmelting and freezing. Alex Larkin from the pre-school room said, 'Thechildren had lots of fun exploring the snow. For many of them it is thefirst snow they remember'.

- Run for the money

Parents and staff members from Mid Gavin Nursery in Howwood, Scotland,have raised 1,240 for Yorkhill Children's Hospital after takingpart in the women's 10K run in Glasgow. In the past month, the nurseryhas also collected 35 boxes full of goodies for the Shoe Box Appeal andraised 960 for Breast Cancer Awareness and Children In Need.

- Animal magic

Sure Start North Moor and Northern Villages children's centres inNewcastle-on-Tyne are taking families to visit Santa and his animalfriends this week at Whitehouse Farm near Morpeth. The children willmeet cows, pigs, lizards, giant snails and Santa's reindeer.

- Busy christmas

Children and staff at Happy Child nursery in Ealing, London, are sharingthe Christmas message with a week of festivities including a Christmaslunch, a tea party and a visit from Santa himself. The children willalso be taking part in a carol concert based on the Nativity story,dressing up as Mary, Joseph, the Three Wise Men, stars, angels andstable animals. Nursery manager Kim Reilly said, 'The children have beenbusy practising their Christmas songs and acting skills to perform atthe nativity play. They are all very excited.'

- Landmark planting

Parents, carers and children at West Cliffe Montessori Nursery School inKeighley, West Yorkshire, celebrated ten years in operation by creatinga wildlife area at their new school site. With the help of the WoodlandTrust, they planted trees to make a hedgerow at the front of thenursery.

- Noddy at nursery

Children from the Little Green Frog Day Nursery in Otley, Leeds, wereexcited at a visit by storybook character Noddy, when they receivedbooks, DVDs and toys to celebrate his 60th birthday. Deputy managerKatrina Cunningham said, 'The children loved having Noddy here today andthey are really thrilled with their new toys.' Noddy is working inpartnership with the National Day Nurseries Association as he makes 60other special deliveries across the UK.

- Montessori honours

The achievements of Montessori teacher training graduates and schoolswho have passed the new MEAB accreditation scheme were honoured at aceremony at London's Institute of Education. Former Montessori teacherTana Ramsey, wife of celebrity chef Gordon, presented the awards, givenby Montessori Centre International and the Montessori St Nicholascharity.Photo of the week: Children at All Saints Sure Start children's centrein Chatham, Kent, painted snowflakes for their Christmas display aheadof a number of themed Playlink sessions up until 23 December, withparents and children together making reindeer masks, Santa sacks,glitter baubles, Christmas stockings and new year calendars.
