Six areas of learning form the content of the QCA's foundation stage curriculum, and these link directly to the six sets of Early Learning Goals. It would be understandable, therefore, for practitioners to take this model at face value and translate it directly into a six-part programme for the children to follow, especially if these are the areas to be scrutinised by the new Ofsted inspectorate.
