Second CACHE chief exec resigns within the year

Tuesday, November 18, 2014

CACHE’s chief executive is leaving the company despite being appointed just six months ago.

Nick Cutland is the awarding body’s second chief executive to step down this year, following the departure of Rob Wye in March after just ten months in the job.

Mr Cutland is leaving to ‘pursue other interests’, a statement from the company said.

It went on, ‘Having reached the end of his six month contract as interim CEO, Nick has decided to pursue other interests including dedicating more time to his [masters].’

A spokeswoman for the company confirmed that the departure was his decision.

Mr Cutland added, ‘I have greatly enjoyed my time working with CACHE and all the many colleagues I have got to know and work with over the last three and a half years.’

In a statement that included identical wording to that of his predecessor Mr Wye, he said, ‘CACHE is a great organisation, delivering high quality with passion, professionalism and commitment.’

Mr Wye's decision to leave came ‘after much thought and reflection’ to work at the ‘sharp end’ of teaching and learning, he told Nursery World. He is now a member of the Skills Commission which meets to discuss education issues in Parliament.

Mr Cutland will be replaced on an interim basis by Sarah Johnson, who was the education manager at the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Here she was  responsible for the development of vocational education and training for young women in Saudi Arabia, a role which involved national policy development and supporting start-up colleges in their first year of operation. She began her career teaching and developing Access courses in London and has developed quality improvement systems and processes for Open College Network, and the Learning and Skills Council.

She said, ‘I am pleased to be returning to the awarding organisation world at a time of change for the sector.’

She describes herself on LinkedIn as being ‘a highly professional and experienced consultant with a strong record of operational management, strategy and policy development and policy implementation in the public sector.’ She also says she has ‘a reputation for using collaborative working to build sustainable relationships.’

Marilyn Hawkins, chair of CACHE, said, ‘In the board’s appointment of Sarah Johnson CACHE’s customers and all our partners can be assured that they will continue to receive the excellent service they have come to expect from CACHE.’
