Refugee mothers and babies programme

Tuesday, June 9, 2009

A community-based intervention programme to support refugee mothers and babies starting this September has been developed by Alderhey Children's NHS Foundation Trust and voluntary agency Home Start. Dr Cheryl Power, clinical psychologist at Alderhey, said that too often services were focused on the mother's mental health, neglecting the whole mother-child relationship. A structured programme will include 'mummy and baby talk time' and home visits by volunteers.
