See what nurseries across the county have been up to.

ROAD SAFETY

Children at Kirktonholme Nursery in Glasgow met with their local lollipop person who taught them how to cross the road safely as part of their topic on road safety.

EMERGENCY SERVICES

Pre-school children from kidsunlimited Reigate, Surrey, were visited by a fast response car from the local ambulance station. They looked around the equipment on board and found out how some of the life-saving machines work.

FUNDRAISING FOR SICK BABIES

New Beginnings Nursery in Consett, County Durham, raised more than £400 for Tommy's Let's Talk baby charity by holding a week-long bake sale, pyjama party and Saturday creche fun day. Barclays Bank donated a further £100 to the charity on behalf of the nursery.

RECYCLING FOR CHARITY

Staff and children at Little Acorns Day Nursery in Washington, Tyne and Wear, collected plastic bottle tops to give to Doxford Park Community Centre and St Wilfrid's Church in Sunderland, which sells the bottle tops to raise money for wheelchairs and equipment for disabled children and adults.

A DAY OF GOOD DEEDS

Children, staff and parents at Chigwell and Hainault Synagogue Nursery in Essex took part in Mitzvah day (20 November 2011), an annual Jewish event in which people lend a hand to support charities and build stronger communities. Parents were invited to help their children decorate cardboard boxes, which they filled with toys and gave to children's charity Barnardo's.

GRADUATION

It was a proud day for seven members of staff from Granby Nurseries, which has four settings in Rotherham and Worksop, South Yorkshire, when they all graduated from Sheffield Hallam University last month. Five members of staff Jeanette Bradburne, Louise Slazak, Jo Gray, Liz Nicholson and Jo Dawson graduated with a BA Honours in Early Years. They joined Sarah Swift who collected a postgraduate certificate in Childhood Studies and Jacqui Hannaby who completed her Foundation Degree.

SUPERHERO DAY

Staff at London Early Years Foundation Nursery at Furze Children's Centre in Chadwell Heath organised a superhero day for children at the setting.

Everyone dressed as their favourite superheroes for the occasion and enjoyed themed stories and activities. The police also came to the nursery to talk to the children about what superheroes can do to help people in the community.

BALLOON RACE

Stepping Stones Montessori Nursery in Poole, Dorset held a balloon race to raise money for the charity Make a Wish. The nursery released 75 balloons and heard from 18 people who spotted them. The two winning balloons travelled 16.1 miles to Durdle Door. The children whose balloons they were both won a prize.

OUTSTANDING RESULT

Hagley Playgroup in Stourbridge, Worcestershire, is celebratings its first 'Outstanding' from Ofsted, which praised the ability of staff to recognise the 'individuality of every child'.

PYJAMA PARTY

Leaping Lizards Day Nursery in Whittington Park, London held a pyjama/fancy dress day to raise money for a little girl called Poppy who needs a prosthetic limb.

PHOTOGRAPHERS IN THE MAKING

Children and their families who attend Bentry and Henbury Children's Centre in Bristol teamed up with local museum M Shed to take part in a Bristolian themed photography project. To create a picture depicting themselves as Bristolians, children, their parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles went back in time to discover what it was like living in the 1940s.
