Green Ark Children's Centre in Plymouth, Devon, celebrated its firstanniversary and launch of its new website with a fun-packed party eventfor families and carers living in Devonport and Stoke. More than 100people came to the party and enjoyed tea and saucer rides, a music zone,balloon modelling, eating fruity kebabs and creating a giant Ark out ofscrap material.

Children from Sunnymede School in Southport posted a letter to the Queenas they were making a visit to a local cafe and were delighted toreceive a reply a few weeks later.

Opening doors

Staff at the Blue Door Nursery in Seaford, East Sussex, are thrilledthat the setting is rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted. The inspectorspraised the nursery for its dedicated and well-qualified team and theexcellent range of physical activities and challenging experiences forchildren. Nursery owner Rebecca Swindells said, 'We are delighted thatOfsted have recognised the dedication, innovation and care we take ingiving pre-schoolers an environment to thrive in.'

Footie fun

Twenty fathers and their children who live in the Ortons in Peterboroughtook part in a weekly football session hosted by Orton Children'sCentre. The sessions were led by the city council's sports developmentteam and concentrated on basic ball control, balancing andco-ordination.The children and their fathers all received medals andcertificates.

Mini graduation

Children from Bright Kids at Studley Infants after-school club inWarwickshire were recently invited to the University of Warwick fortheir own university graduation.

Warwickshire Children's University and Kids' College is an innovativeproject supported by Warwickshire County Council to provide anopportunity to extend learning beyond school.


Risk assessment

The Pre-School Learning Alliance has published a new book to help earlyyears providers manage risk.

Managing Risk stresses the importance of developing a risk strategy andprovides guidance on each stage of the risk assessment process, coveringhow to analyse hazards and insurance aspects. Also included are firesafety procedures and a fire safety risk assessment form.
