The National Farmers' Union (NFU) and animated children’s character Tractor Ted have joined forces to launch a new food campaign.

The competition is part of the NFU's Let's Talk Farming campaign, which promotes British farming at schools, county shows and food fairs across the country.

With some help from Tractor Ted, the animated tractor star of the hit series of books and DVDs about farming and the countryside, children aged between four and seven are asked to match up a series of pictures, including animals to their houses, mothers to their babies and foods to their sources. They can then return entry forms by post or email to be in with a chance of winning.

The winner will receive a Tractor Ted Little Farm Live party for one day in their garden, local park or school playground.  The Little Farm Live features a barn tent with pens of small farm animals such as sheep and hens with two Tractor Ted Farmers to introduce the animals to the children, explain which breed they are and how to care for them. They will also have access to Tractor Ted’s giant bouncy tractor and slide.

NFU vice-president Guy Smith said, ‘It’s vital that the next generation understands about British farming and where their food comes from. We’re delighted to work with the Tractor Ted team to deliver this competition. It’s a fantastic opportunity to reach out to thousands of youngsters in a fun and engaging way.’

To enter the competition, which is open until 31 August 2014, and find downloadable resources and information on the Let’s Talk Farming roadshow visit www.letstalkfarming.co.uk

Competition leaflets will also be available from any of the Let’s Talk Farming roadshows and at Tractor Ted live event locations, listed at www.tractorted.co.uk
