A series of webcasts, featuring a Masterchef semi-finalist and former nursery chef, have been launched with advice for settings on planning cooking sessions with children.

Within the webcasts, launched by the Children’s Food Trust, chef Sophie Atkins-Ward shares her tips on setting up a cooking area and practical food activities nurseries can try with children.

In one webcast, Ms Atkins-Ward, who reached the semi-finals of the BBC show earlier this year, demonstrates how to make her ‘sticky plum flapjack’.

Ms Atkins-Ward said, ‘Getting children cooking and eating food from a young age is paramount, getting them used to colours and textures is essential, because it builds up their confidence. It’s about making it fun and enjoyable, allowing young children to play with different food, and remembering there’s plenty they can do in the kitchen with the right planning and supervision.’

The webcasts are available to view on the Children’s Food Trust’s learning Network, an online training hub that provides courses for early years professionals on how to deliver healthy food to the children in their care.

Learning Network membership costs £108 for 12 months, with the Children’s Food Trust offering discounts buying in bulk.
